Leaving the airport ,
the night of March 4th, we found these two, sitting in the middle of
the road!
Shaun actually drove right over the top of them!
No mom around!
We couldn't just leave them......

Ozzie looks happy we brought them home!

Luckily, we had a small cage and some screen that we could use to
keep the cats away from them....
We bought some "chick starter" , (small cereal like food that smells
like wheat and molasses...) plus wood shavings from the farm
store...
Put up a stick for a perch, and a kleenex box for their roost...
Granny watching the show...

Blackfoot and Shaggy watching from the bed...

Taz, and the others now love to sleep on top of the cage...

How did Mouse get in there???

In just two weeks they have gotten a lot bigger, and are getting long
dark feathers!
Their tail feathers came in almost
overnight!

Under careful supervision... we let mouse in to check them out...

but he was more interested in eating their food than eating
them!

we raised him right..... : )

A little better pic of what the whole setup looks like...

The cats are always on, or right outside, the cage...
When they put their noses on it, the chicks run over to them,
and peck them....
If we hold the chicks up to the cats, the cats just sniff, and walk
away...
I think they want to chase something and not just have it handed to
them...
Although, we won't let Shaggy or Taz in the cage!!!

It is amazing how fast these birds
grow!
Their favorite thing to do is, when we open the door to the cage,
they run out and jump/fly to Shauns shoulder!
Then they just sit and preen themselves...

April19

One of them has started crowing... so we know we have at least one
rooster....
just a quiet squeeky crowing... but we know that will change...

And for all of y ou wondering what chicken poop looks like......

of course it depends on what they were eating...
but about every 5 minutes.... stand clear.......
We brought them to the property on the 11th...
It rained off and on so they stayed under cover most of the time.
But they seemed to like the grass... and worms we brought them...

The cats are getting more "chicken" than the birds are!

We let them run free during the day....
They stay close, and come when they are called...
The chicks are now getting visitors...
They don't like getting too close to the big rooster,
but will run to us when he does get close...
